The preeminent architectural renderer of his time, Hugh Ferriss watched the emergence of the Manhattan skyline from his studio.

Rather than making a simple record of what he saw, Ferriss sought to convey the emotional response a viewer would have to these immense new structures. With his amazing ability to render the effects of light and shadow, Ferriss went far beyond simple portrayals of these 20th century icons--to create drama and magic that have never been equaled in architectural delineation.

No wonder, then, that the question we are asked most frequently is "Where can I get a Hugh Ferriss drawing?" What is surprising is that many people making this request have only seen book reproductions which do not even approach the beauty of the originals!

In the past, printing a high quality poster and the prospect of huge quantities of a single image didn't make sense. Now, digital printing has changed all that. We are pleased to offer, in editions limited to 150, fine art reproductions of some of Hugh Ferriss' most beautiful work.

Our Hugh Ferriss prints are made one at a time, from drum-scanned, large format transparencies, under license from the Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library at Columbia University. To insure maximum longevity, the images are printed with state-of-the-art pigment based inks onto 100% cotton, acid-free paper. Every effort has been made to make these prints faithful to the originals.

Now, at last, you can decorate your home or office with a quintessential piece of Art Deco art. You'll also be helping to support the Avery Library which receives a portion of each sale. (For technical information on our Giclee prints please click here).

"To Tomorrow With Lehigh Cement", c.1929.

In this early Hugh Ferriss drawing a gleaming skyscraper towers over the city, seemingly lit by moonlight alone. In the foreground, construction equipment stands ready for the next day's work, building the metropolis. A beautiful drawing, done in pencil and charcoal.

We offer two sizes, each in an edition of 150, printed with pigment-based inks on acid-free cotton paper. The standard sized print has an image area of 16" x 22" with outer dimensions of 18" x 24". Price, $95. plus shipping.

A spectacular, larger print is also available. The large print has an image area of 22" x 31" and outer dimensions of 24" x 33". Price, $195. plus shipping.

Johnson Wax Company Building (Frank Lloyd Wright, architect)

In the 1940s, Hugh Ferriss set out on a cross-country trip, stopping along the way to draw what he felt were the best examples of architecture at the time. Surely Frank Lloyd Wright's stunning building for Johnson Wax Company was an easy choice. In its elegant streamlined curves one can see some ideas that would find their way into the Guggenheim museum, some years later.

Done in pencil, what at first appears to be a grayscale image in fact has bits of color, in the employee's clothing and the car parked to the left. (Note that this illustration is a little lighter than the actual print, to make more detail visible).

We offer two sizes, each in an edition of 150, printed with pigment-based inks on acid-free cotton paper. The standard sized print has an image area of 16" x 22" with outer dimensions of 18.5" x 24". Price, $95. plus shipping.

A larger print is also available. The large print has an image area of 22" x 27.5" and outer dimensions of 24" x 30". Price, $195. plus shipping.

Airplane With Boarding Passengers, c.1943.

An evening departure for the World of Tomorrow. A giant airplane takes on passengers for what will no doubt be a great voyage. As your eyes adjust to the light you see the huge wings and propellers. In the distance the outline of the Statue of Liberty is just visible. As far as we know this image has not been published since it was created, and perhaps not even then. Please note that this drawing shows a few small drip marks, probably from the varnish Ferriss used. A dramatic and impressive work.

We offer two sizes, each in an edition of 150, printed with pigment-based inks on acid-free cotton paper. The standard sized print has an image area of 14" x 22" with outer dimensions of 16" x 24". Price, $95. plus shipping.

A larger print is also available. The large print has an image area of 22" x 35" and outer dimensions of 24" x 37". Price, $195. plus shipping.
